This panel discussion will feature four executives from HP and will be co-facilitated by Kate Williams and Selene Vences-Ortiz. Using their career experiences and their current work environment, the speakers will discuss issues related to diversity and inclusion in hiring, career progression, and retention strategies. Keynote by Marah Edelen

Director, US Commercial Inside Sales

Marah Edelen is an Executive Director at HP Inc. for US Commercial Inside Sales team in Rio Rancho, NM. Marah is responsible for a $1.5B yearly Print and Personal Systems business and leading a world class inside sales team. Marah joined HP in August 2009 and in her 9 year tenure Marah has worked her way up starting as an Inside Sales Representative in SMB, moving to the Mid-Atlantic Inside District Manager in Corporate, and now an HP executive in Commercial.

Prior to joining HP, Marah worked in the Investment and Banking Industry for six years in Arizona and California as a top performing banker and advisor at Wells Fargo/Wachovia Bank specializing in analysis, planning, and facilitating multimillion dollar negotiations. Marah has 18 years of proven sales experience in technology and finance and experience with start-up companies and organizations; from her father’s business to investment firms to internal HP organizations that have been organically grown over the years.

Alex Brown Director

America's Sales Operations

Mr. Brown is currently the Director, Americas End User Sales Operations. He has responsibility for Account Operation Managers in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. His responsibilities also include the Customer Support Center, the Manage Print and Supplies Pricing Team, Digital Consultants, A3 Concierge Service, along with the Customer Sales Support Managers all based in Guadalajara, Mexico as well the Americas Proposal Center, Americas Contract Operations and North America Demo for HP Inc. In his six years at Hewlett-Packard prior to the company split he has served as Director, Personal Systems US Corporate Inside Sales and Inside Sales Manager for HP Personal Systems Group and later Print and Personal Systems.

Alex has held various positions with Fortune 200 companies to include his former position as Vice President of Western Canadian Operations for Future Shops, LLC, which is now part of Best Buy Canada. He has also worked as a Finance Director/Manager for both Lexus and Ford dealerships in the Auto Industry. Prior to that, Alex worked as a Regional General Manager, Regional Human Resource Director, and Regional Operations Manager with Circuit City Stores, Inc.

He is currently on the Board of Directors for Hagar USA, a non-profit organization focused on restoring wholeness in the lives of women and children in Afghanistan, Cambodia and Vietnam that have been torn apart by human rights abuse.

Mr. Brown attended Wake Forest University where he majored in History. Alex is also a recent graduate of the HP/Stanford Accelerated Development for Managers Program.

Alex lives with his wife Stephanie in Albuquerque, NM USA.

Rene Cortes District Manager

Corporate Inside Sales

With over 28 years of sales and sales management experience, Rene has chosen HP as his employer of choice for almost 10 years. He currently leads a Corporate Sales team generating over $600M in revenue annually at HP, for the past 4 years. 

A California native, he has made Rio Rancho, NM his home now for almost 10 years with his wife of 22 years and his 5 year old son and 6 year old daughter. Rene is a die-hard sports fan, his favorite teams include USC Trojans and The Green Bay Packers, but his ultimate favorite team is his son’s team, Phantom Fireballs, that he is the proud assistant coach for.

He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, fishing, and home improvement projects

Katie McDermott

Field Account Manager

Katie McDermott is a native New Mexican with 14 years of sales experience. She has been with HP for 10 years holding positions in Inside Sales, Management and is currently a Field Account Manager in our Public Sector Business covering New Mexico and El Paso. A former college athlete and coach of various levels, she leans on her competitive nature and discipline to help her be successful at HP.
